MAYA’ S HOPE

EW Villa Medica Success Case - SCHIZENCEPHALY - MAYA TOWNSEND

Maya’s Positive Progress

“This video shows her positive progress: Her strength, stamina and quicker verbal responses were the first few things to improve after receiving stem cells. She has continuously maintained or even increased her strength and stamina. And more improvement to come for Maya, she no longer needs her frame, now on crutches and in 2 weeks, they will try her on canes! Thanks to EW Villa Medica and cellular therapy!” – Maya’s Mother

Sometimes a parent’s hope and dedication are the best medicine

Maya’s Mother, Isabelle Townsend:
“When you have a child with a disability you do whatever you can to help that child reach their full potential and that is how my husband and I have approached our daughter’s care. Our daughter Maya, was born with a rare neurological disorder, schizencephaly, it falls under the cerebral palsy umbrella.

She is thriving and a big reason that she is thriving is that we have and continue to provide her with great medical care and therapy. Our attitude is, if there is a chance something can help her and we know that it will not hurt her then we are willing to try it. It is with that thought in mind, along with my parents’ help that we began researching stem cell therapy.

In September, Maya and I headed to EW Villa Medica for Maya to receive live stem cell therapy treatment. Before we went, EW Villa Medica required information about Maya and her disorder along with some blood work. Her pediatrician here was very supportive and stated that stem cells is our future. After researching EW Villa Medica and stem cell therapy I knew that they could help Maya, I just wasn’t sure how much.

Maya received her stem cells on a Tuesday and I was told that it could possibly take a couple of weeks to see results. Let me tell you, it did not take that long. We arrived back in Chicago the following Thursday and I had not planned on sending Maya to school on that Friday as I thought she would be tired. I was wrong. That was the day I started seeing a difference in her.

That Friday she rode her adaptive bike the furthest she had ever ridden by herself. She was able to pedal independently and focus enough to steer onto the path. As she was riding her bike, she knew that she was doing more than before because she was saying, “the treatment is working.”

She then went grocery shopping with me and walked all over the store using her walker without getting tired, which she would have on previous occasions. And when her sisters’ came home from school, she played outside with them in her walker again for over an hour. These three examples show how her strength and stamina were the first few things to improve after receiving stem cells. It is now seven months later and she has maintained or even increased her strength and stamina.

Another benefit which I first noticed was her quicker verbal responses. Previously, she would take a few seconds to get her thoughts together and then express them. That is no longer the case. She is quick thinking, sometimes a little too quick and quite witty too. I did not mention any of the changes that I was seeing to her various therapists as I wanted to see if they could see them. All four of her therapists noticed her increased strength, endurance, and faster verbal and muscle responses.

And yet another benefit is that for the first five years of Maya’s life, she would catch a cold every month; September-May. This year she has only had one cold and that was in December.

Overall, I am very happy with the way in which Maya has responded to stem cell therapy. She continues to thrive and achieve more goals. She recently received new braces for her feet and she is now just starting to take steps independently. Stem cells did not cure Maya, that is not reality, but I have no doubt that they helped her in a tremendous way.”
